I came to Brevard County in 1971 with an eagerness to make a difference in the lives of our youth as a classroom teacher. I had landed a job at Melbourne High School and could not wait to share my knowledge and passion for education with my students. Since those days, many years have passed and to say I have now come full circle would be an understatement. I have served in just about every school level capacity there is – teacher, coach, athletic director, dean of students, assistant principal for facilities and student activities, assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, principal at a middle school, and finally principal at a high school. I have been honored and recognized on numerous occasions but the one honor that will always mean the most was when I was selected Melbourne High Teacher of the Year which then led to Brevard Teacher of the Year and one of five finalists for Florida Teacher of the Year. Although I have been on the administrative side for a number of years, I have never forgotten that my roots were as a classroom teacher and I have always recognized that the heart of our education success has always been on the shoulders of our teachers. So why have I decided to run for the Brevard County School Board? As I have already indicated I have spent my entire professional life as an educator here in Brevard. I believe my experiences and knowledge well qualifies me to represent the constituents in matters affecting their children and our communities. I have “walked the walk and talked the talk” for over 37 years and now I eagerly look forward to having yet one more opportunity to impact our students in a new role. Having attended literally hundreds of school board meetings I fully understand the immense responsibility that I would have in making sound educational decisions to enhance our schools and students. I welcome the challenge! The purpose of this website is to provide you with some information which I hope will convince you that indeed I would be a good choice to be on our school board. I know in my heart that I have a lot to offer that hopefully will continue to allow this school system to be one of the best in the state of Florida if not in the nation. At the same time, I recognize there are many challenges before us and I eagerly look forward to being a voice for our students, parents, and constituents. |
